80th Anniversary – Commemoration of Liberation
The Australian Nurses Memorial Centre is pleased to invite you to a Festal Choral Evensong of commemoration and remembrance to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the liberation of the Australian Army Nurses captured after the fall of Singapore in 1942 and interred in Sumatra, and those captured in Rabaul and later interred in Japan.
The service will commemorate the sacrifice of those Nurses who did not return from their being interned. It will also give thanks for the return of those liberated and their later contribution to Australia, their families and their communities.
During the service an opportunity will be available for family members to light a candle in memory of each nurse as their names are read aloud.
Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the service.
Could you please advise if you will be attending and if you are able to light a candle in remembrance or whether you would like this attended to on your behalf.
