The Shoe-Horn Sonata is an Australian play telling the story of two Australian nurses, Sheila and Bridie, freed from a Japanese POW camp at the end of World War II. Now after a half-century separation, the filming of a TV documentary forces them to relive the past. Woven into their fifty years of separation are a shoe-horn and the threads of loyalty and love which form their ‘uncommon bond’.
The play has been much revived and has become a study text in Australian schools.
